MetaCraft
The Vision
MetaCraft is our creative take on a competitive, combat-oriented, and fast-paced RTS game that introduces a unique mechanism that enables players to optimize for their preferred style of play. Whether that is rhythmic, mechanical excellence in regards to mining, base-building, and producing, or making super-human plays through micro-oriented combat, or creative intelligence with unique builds that stay steps ahead of the meta – we believe each player should be able to express themselves and improve in the way they desire.
While competitive RTS may not be an accessible genre for all, we wholly believe in and are passionate about building a future for this genre. We are committed to doubling-down on and modernizing winning game-design principles from our successful RTS predecessors, without sacrificing the essence of what makes the genre great.
Progress
Completed: Multiplayer Networking
Given MetaCraft’s focus on 1-on-1 multiplayer we started development by implementing networking. We completed several successful multiplayer stress tests across North America with 400 units each. Units feel responsive and react immediately to player commands.

Completed: Group Pathfinding
Next we tackled controlling groups of units. This involves pathfinding for each unit as well as making groups of units move together.

In Progress: Auto attack
We’re currently working on auto attack. Once it is completed we can start testing micro battles between two players with the same number of units.
Join the Team
The team currently consists of two members: one developer and one game designer. We are both life-long StarCraft 1 & 2 players. We have been making slow and steady progress since starting this project early in 2025 and are currently recruiting new team members.
Developer
The game is built in Unity with C# and FishNet. There are many interesting systems to work on such as:
- AI opponents with a range of skill levels
- Maps with varied terrain and the tools to make them
- Macro fundamentals: minerals, workers, resource collection
- Macro combos: bonuses gained by the player by executing economy and base building tasks in specific ways
- Micro fundamentals: refining unit selection, commands, and combat
- Micro combos: bonuses gained by the player by executing combat tasks in specific ways

Artist
We are looking for someone familiar with Unity and 3D who wants to bring an original and unique art style to the RTS genre. So far we’ve collected screenshots from a variety of possible themes and art styles. Please fill out this form if you’re interested.
